Integrous Science Fiction

public - created 05/17/05
Dialog about ethos in science fiction is the research and development departments of the field, the way we discover what's ahead in the genre.

In the past science fiction has peddled cynical nihilistic, existential despair and rigid scientism in book after book.

A small but important group of science fiction writers explicitly create a moral universe within which the reader is inspired. Such science fiction, while still the minority, in fact is a more comprehensive description of the future than both politically motivated leftwing sociological sci-fi and reductionistic and authoritarian right wing mainstream sci-fi.

So this group exists to celebrate a new power in the science fiction genre: the power of integrity. Since integrity appears different in the eyes of different beholders, I want to encourage everyone to express any science fiction whose ethos inspires you, with ideas and characters that you love because of their moral power. On the other hand science fiction that is is famous but seems disintegrous needs to be exposed for what it is, so I encourage you to expose SF that seems to peddle a false ethos openly without fear of offense.

A note on inappropriate rudeness: trolling will result in instant moderation and possible reporting to tribe management.
